Guests and New Comer Formation

GUESTS & NEWCOMERS

Goal: To Introduce OCDS practices, spirituality, inspiration, organization, history, and how to discern a call to this vocation.

Materials Used-

  1. Welcome to the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites, P. Aloysius Deeney, OCD, ICS Publications

  2. Discalced Carmelites Washington Province of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Secular Order Legislation: Rule of St. Albert, Constitutions, Statutes

  3. Liturgy of the Hours – How to

Review of OCDS practices (as in brochure)

1. Daily half-hour of mental prayer

2. Recitation of Liturgy of Hours, Morning, Evening, Night prayer encouraged

3. Daily Mass when possible

4. Daily Devotion to Mary

5. Attendance and participation at monthly meetings

6. Participation in the Apostolate of the Community.

Requirements to enter into Aspirancy:

1. Attend at least three or four meetings as a Guest/Newcomer

2. Submit to Director of Formation:

a) Application for Admission to Aspirancy

b) Letter of Intent (Why person feels called to Carmel)

c) Current Baptismal Certificate (within one year)

d) Documentation showing proof of a valid marriage in the Catholic Church

3. Interview with and Acceptance by Council to enter Aspirancy.
